Blog 5: Changes to my study program
Blog 5: Changes to my study program
I would like to start off by saying that I am just in my second year at University, so I haven’t had all the subjects yet. Therefore, I am just going to talk about the subject of the first years of theater.
In the first place, all the subjects are necessary for our professional education as actors, in my opinion. However, I think that there's some compulsory subjects of faculty of arts that are unnecessary, like the CFG (cursos de formación general) or CFBT (cursos de formación básica transversal), which commonly have the objective of making interdisciplinary connections with all the careers of the university. Somehow, the problem is not about the interdiscipline, but the way it is done and managed. The pandemic changed the way some courses are taught, and most CFG and CFBT are now imparted online. Also, they usually have incompatible schedules with the rest of the courses.
In relation to the subjects of theater, I think that all the subjects are fine or they meet their objective, but I would add subjects on movement and voice to complement our artistic base.
Secondly, I would like to talk about the faculty facilities. In the department of theater, the facilities are not good. Actually, we always complain about that, because they are too old and have electrical problems. To me, the biggest problem is the space because we have too many students for such a small place, and we never have enough rooms to rehearse or study.
Despite having upgraded some classrooms and having more technology added to the school -which I think is more than fine and necessary-, we still face the problem of using spotlights, since they cannot always be occupied.
To finish, I want to say that one of the biggest problems at the university is the schedule workload, because there’s often not enough time in a week to work on everything we should, plus there are exam weeks where all the study of all the subjects are accumulated.
That is all for today…see you soon.
I agree with you about these courses. Sometimes it is very frustrating to take them because the timetables never coincide when you have to take them.
